He aha te nama?
Hi everyone
So, here are the steps to the game we played at out meeting.
1 - start by looking at the numbers - say and show with fingers or cubes
2- say and show by getting into groups of kids
3 - Say the question slowly, write it up on board - write it phonetically
4 - Give kids pack of cards - one is the caller and dealer - He aha te nama? Other two kids have to say the number first. Caller can say Ae, he tika tena (yip that's right) or Kao, ano (no, try again)
5 - Next level - have two dice roll em add together call the answer - in Maori of course. You don't have to do the adding in Maori just the answer
6 - Use the parts of the body poster - get the kids outside spread out. Call E wha waewae kids have to get into groups and in that group there must be - wha waewae (4 legs)
Enjoy!

Interactive Te Reo lessons for all ages
I hope you find
this link useful, Mariana and I certainly have.
http://www.tokureo.maori.nz/ index.cfm/1,186,0,43,html
I have an idea for the greetings lesson, put children into groups give them an Ipad or camera, get them to take photos demonstrating the greetings or make little movies. Put up on interactive whiteboard or TV for every one to see.
Simons say Tena koe - have an action for this
Simon says Tena korua - get into twos
and so on.

Ki te takoranga.
A hiki 'nuku, hiki e
Hiki rangi, runga e

Put everyone aboard the canoes,
the canoes of the island.
Thrust the canoes shorewards
to the place where they will lie.
Swing your paddles down, swing them
Swing your paddles skywards, swing them
Greetings, greetings
to you all.
